Worry is sometimes a way of making us feel as though we’re doing something. We’re often powerless in the face of certain situations, and worrying is one way of responding to that forced inaction.
“There may be nothing for me to do, but at least I’m doing some worrying” might be one way to put it.
On the flip side, someone who shows no worry in a pressing situation can come across as carefree or callous. And yet worry brings absolutely no benefit, except maybe that of keeping us on alert so we can react quickly. But even then, 95% of the time, it’s useless.
So could staying calm in the face of worry be a superpower?
